The WVLA Social Responsibilities Roundtable sponsored a well-attended session at 2006 Spring Fling, titled "AmeriCorps VISTA and Your Library."  The session was presented by Judith Russell, State Coordinator of AmeriCorp VISTA projects in West Virginia, Gibbs Kinderman, Past-President of the Board of Trustees of Pocahontas County Free Libraries and a VISTA Regional Coordinator, and James Bush, an active VISTA volunteer for the past 2 ½ years.  Among his several responsibilities Bush has facilitated showing documentary films in libraries on social issues with following discussion; has facilitated a grant and acquisition of DVDs and Videos for a project, Films for Understanding: Documentaries on Social Justiice and held a public event with a noted speaker as group facilitator; further developed the local library's collection of materials involving sensitivity to cultural diversity and information on local racialist hate groups.  VISTA volunteers can provide libraries with limited resources an opportunity to expand services and programs into their communities.

Social Responsibilities Roundtable supported the Intellectual Freedom Committee in inviting Asra Nomani to speak at 2005 Annual Conference on women's rights within her Islamic religion.

At this time there are no budgeted expenditures to report.
