Special Libraries Division

Annual Report  2005

Membership in the Special Libraries Division and attendance at division meetings continues to decrease.  As of the end of July 2005 there were 12 members.  Thought was given to the possibility of merging the Special Libraries Division with the Academic Libraries Division, a practice that has been followed by a number of state library associations.  The Constitution and By-Laws Committee did not endorse the proposal, and the Executive Board elected not to pursue it.  The division member selected as chair-elect at the 2004 fall meeting has since dropped out of WVLA.  Kevin Fredette, reference librarian at the West Virginia University Law Library, has volunteered to serve as the 2005-2006 chair.  His name will be brought to the fall 2005 division meeting in Shepherdstown.

The Special Libraries Division is sponsoring one program at the Shepherdstown conference:  The Special Libraries of West Virginia - What Do They Offer Your Patrons?  Panelists are Carol Johnson-Cyrus, West Virginia Dept. of Education & the Arts Division of Rehabilitation Services Staff Library; Chuck Julian, Robert C. Byrd National Technology Transfer Center, Wheeling Jesuit University; Barbara Landreth, National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health Morgantown Library; and Anne Roy, United States Fish and Wildlife Service National Conservation Training Center Library.  Each panelist will talk about how their services can be utilized by libraries and patrons around the state.  The Special Libraries Division Directory continues to be updated on the web at http://www.wvla.org/divisions/special_directory.htm .

Respectfully submitted,
